City Central Coffee (Phoenix) has a very well-balanced, pleasant pumpkin and spice cupcake topped with a light drizzle of icing. Nothing at all wrong with it, but nothing to write home about.

Rating: 5/10

I lean towards think most cupcakes and sweet muffins need a soft or gooey element to make them less dry and more flavor-packed.  Which is why my favorites are the other two cupcakes covered in this post.

The Cheescake Factory pumpkin cupcake is given a boost with a healthy (arguable unhealthy) dose of cream cheese icing and garnish.

The cake portion is more a drier spice cake but it is well-balanced by the icing for an overall more delicious experience.

Starbucks really takes the cake, so to speak.  Their cupcake (a.k.a. pumpkin cream cheese muffin) has a gorgeous color and texture, great taste and texture, and a sweet gooey filling.

But f you know of a pumpkin spice cupcake that you think is better, please drop me a comment.
